Rohit Sharma acknowledges sloppiness despite India's strong ODI World Cup 2023 final entry

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, after a commanding 70-run victory over New Zealand in the ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final, expressed self-criticism, describing his team's performance as a bit sloppy on the field. Despite the admitted shortcomings, India is on the brink of making history with one more win securing the ODI World Cup 2023 title. Sharma lauded Mohammed Shami's exceptional seven-wicket haul and Virat Kohli's record 50th ODI century as key highlights contributing to India's triumph at Wankhede Stadium.

In the semi-final, India posted an imposing total of 397/4, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill providing a solid opening stand. Virat Kohli's century and Shreyas Iyer's second-successive World Cup century further bolstered the team's performance.

Despite New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell and skipper Kane Williamson's commendable partnership of 181 runs, Shami's crucial two-wicket over shifted the momentum, limiting the Kiwis to 327 in 48.5 overs. Shami's outstanding performance earned him the 'Player of the Match' title. Rohit Sharma, in his post-match analysis, acknowledged the pressure of the semifinal but commended the team's ability to stay calm and execute their plans effectively.
